This is the story of Al Hawkes. As an active musician and entertainer, he has received over 30 state, regional and national awards. These include: The Dick Curless Memorial Award, The Lenny Breau Memorial Award, DECMA Pioneer and Founder’s Award, Bluegrass Music Association of Maine’s Pioneer Award, CMAA Instrumentalist of the Year. In 1980, he was inducted into the
Maine Country Music Hall of Fame.
In 1956, Al and Barbara Hawkes, together with Richard Greeley, formed a recording company called Event Records. They recorded many local and national artists such as Dick Curless, Hal Lone Pine, Charlie Bailey (of the Bailey Brothers), the Lilly Brothers & Don Stover, Lenny Breau and Curtis Johnson, as well as many others.
This film is a testament to him and his music and commitment to the music industry. He is a treasure of the Northern Country States and of the US as a whole
